![]() The goggles have two tiny screens in them, right in front of your eyeballs. What really makes this drone work are the FPV goggles along with the radio system that connects to the drone. You’ll look weird with these on, but they work very, very well. ![]() These sensors include ground detection to keep the drone at a safe altitude, as well as forward-looking stereo-based obstacle detection that works well enough for the kinds of obstacles that cameras are able to see. We’re delighted to report that the DJI FPV drone also includes some useful sensors that will make you significantly less likely to embed it in the nearest tree. The camera on the front records in 4K at 60 FPS on an electronically stabilized tilt-only gimbal, and there’s a microSD card slot for local recording. Battery life maxes out at 20 minutes, but in practice you’ll get more like 10-15 minutes depending on how you fly. Top speed is a terrifying 140 km/h, albeit in a mode that you have to unlock (more on that later), and it’ll accelerate from a hover to 100 km/h in two seconds. It weighs 800g (of which 300 is the battery), and doesn’t fold up even a little bit, although the props are easy to remove.Įfficient design, but not small or portable. Or rather, the barriers are high, because there are several. And that typically means flying in First Person View, or FPV, where it feels like you’re a tiny little human sitting inside of a virtual cockpit in your drone.įor that last group of folks, the barrier to entry is high. Then you have people for whom flying the drone itself is the appealing part people who like flying fast and creatively because it’s challenging, exciting, and fun. You’ve also got people who want a drone that can be used to take pictures or video of themselves, where they don’t want to be bothered flying the drone at all. There’s not always a ton of information in these guides they’re not full-blown manuals. Now, they’re residing on a Facebook group called DJI FPV Drone. At least that’s where we believe these originated. That video was taken down, perhaps at the request of DJI, but not before someone took some screen shots of the image. But one YouTuber did a long unboxing video that contained shots of the Quick Start Guide that ships with the drone. Makes sense, since most people can access all of that information online. But we hadn’t seen the manual.ĭJI products ship with famously minimal manuals. But there hasn’t been much in terms of documentation. We’ve seen a lot of photos over the past few months, starting with blurry images and eventually leading to official DJI marketing images. It’s no secret there have been a ton of leaks around the DJI FPV drone.
